Social Agriculture

Social Agriculture

Research has shown that 65% of the world’s arable land resides in African and this continent has the highest number of people living in extreme poverty.

At Seyifara Foundation, our goal is to eradicate poverty and  hunger through economic empowerment using agriculture as a tool.

Social Agriculture is an inclusive and innovative participatory model of agricultural practice aimed at delivering assistance in the form of input and tools to subsistence farmers in a social system and not a capitalist system that aims for profitability. By social system we mean, our goal is not to generate profit but help farmers generate profit.

We will enhance collaboration amongst farmers and other stakeholders in agric business so as to narrow the broad agricultural supply chain, create a system that will bring the farmers closer to the market that needs their product, provide the tools and information required for mechanized farming at no cost or even at an extreme discount to make it affordable for the subsistence farmers.

The result expected from the project will increase productivity, minimize wastages of perishable goods, increase food security, improve economic activities through the processing of raw materials, and ultimately provide economic empowerment to the subsistence farmers by being able to quickly convert their farm produce to cash throughout the enhanced supply chain.

The Social Agriculture project will also help the farmers scale their activities, create jobs in our society, and provide long-term economic empowerment. We will also ensure communal engagement with one another and of course, the technologies, resources, and tools that will be provided might come at a cost to the farmer, however, the cost will be affordable, extremely discounted, or probably at no cost.

Our goal is to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project and extreme affordability to the farmers. We want to be socially responsible to those that have no access to what we have. We believe giving ‘fish’ is short-term while teaching ‘how to fish’ is long-term.

We, therefore, aim to socially empower the hardworking subsistence farmers economically so that we can have a better society with lower levels of people living in abject poverty in Africa.
